It’s a game that can, and should be, completed in one sitting, and one that’s sure to stick with you, either for its unique mechanics or dazzling watercolor environments, after the story concludes.
A very unique experience, that you should avoid if you're looking for a “traditional” adventure game. But it's really well made, emotionally strong and extremely good in communicating its messages.
Over quickly and hardly exhilarating, but illuminating in a way games rarely bother to be.
Maybe it’s petty to lay into a game for what it could’ve been, but this game, though unique, charming, and well-executed, feels like an appetizer when I really wanted a meal.
Neat premise and graphics, but slow, repetitive gameplay lets an ingenious concept down. [Oct 2015, p.73]
The game’s sparse storyline and limited gameplay suggests that it can be enjoyed primarily on an aesthetic or sentimental level; unless you find Beyond Eyes beautiful or touching, there is little reason to take note of it except as another small sign of diversity in the medium.
Beyond Eyes offers a unique concept that is great in concept and graphics. However, the gameplay does not really inspire as much as those elements, so it is very easy to become bored and annoyed by this piece of art too.
Beyond Eyes has a fascinating premise and a lot of potential, but its bare-bones plot just isn’t up to the task.
For the most part the execution is too simplistic, and the frustrations are too frequent.
The gripping story, great gameplay and rich content. That’s exactly what is missing in the Beyond Eyes project. Its authors tried to introduce the world of blind people to us but they have forgotten that the mere idea doesn’t make a good game.
Beyond Eyes is a weak story and an even worse game – completely linear and in my opinion painfully boring. [11/2015, p.37]
