Right now Sheltered is the most fun when you’re just starting out, and it gets less fun as you go along, but its developers are still working on the game and accepting feedback, so maybe they’ll adjust the difficulty and add some end-game content in their upcoming patches. Regardless, Sheltered is fun enough right now to be worth its budget price.
Sheltered is a PC version of Bethesda's Fallout Shelter, which demonstrated, that maintaining your own bunker can be almost as fun as exploring the wasteland. Family-oriented game design fails to deliver solid content for lengthy gaming sessions, but in little bits and pieces surviving the apocalypse with the good ol' missus and kids is quite addicting. [June/July 2016]
Sheltered offers a solid experience that all fans of the genre will surely love. Unfortunately a certain repetitiveness in the difficulties to deal with, mortify the ambitions of a game that is still fun and challenging.
Sheltered's final version is not as good as we expected after playing the Early Access build, but this doesn't mean it isn't a good game. It could have been much better with some additional balancing.
Sheltered is a good little game that just becomes bogged down with all the little details.
Still, if you’ve got an itch for post-apocalyptic worlds and a need to try and see how well you’d do in surviving them, it’s a quality game that can be recommended. Just make sure to keep plenty of hinges handy.
Sheltered is unquestionably inspired by Fallout Shelter but it’s much more challenging and complex. It’s too complex for its own good and a lot is left to chance. It could also use more action.
Sheltered’s biggest letdown is the lack of any emotional hooks. It is pretty much a grindfest where even the darkest scenes and seeing people suffering will leave you cold.
Once the engaging atmosphere melts away, only a fairly boring, stereotypical and somehow broken game remains. There are plenty of more interesting survivals to play.
If you're a) an apocalyptic junkie enjoying the real fallout shelter plans, b) someone excited by problems, such as getting rid of a corpse; Sheltered with its never-ending nonsense will enrage you rather than entertain. [Issue#263]
