Aegis Defenders

HUMANITY HAS BEEN BROUGHT BACK INTO THE DARK AGES, BUT REMNANTS OF A ONCE HIGHLY ADVANCED CIVILIZATION STILL EXIST.

In a world where control over ancient technologies means power, a ruthless Empire has arisen. You play as a team of Ruinhunters searching for the one thing that can save their village - a legendary weapon known as Aegis.

Explore, build, & defend in this 2D platformer that blends Metroidvania style combat with Tower Defense strategy.

EXPLORE

  • Discover the world of Elam, a beautiful yet dangerous place lost to time. Brimming with dangerous beasts, forgotten ruins, and powerful relics, Elam is brought to life with uniquely handpainted pixel art style.

BUILD

  • Level up your items and weapons in the shop to take in bigger and badder enemies.
  • Adjust your strategy on the fly with the "Fusion Build" system. Try fusing different combinations of items together to change your defensive setup.

FIGHT

  • Fight off enemies from all sides - but you won't have to do it alone. With Dynamic Character Swapping you'll need to switch between multiple characters on the battlefield, position your characters carefully, and utilize their passive abilities effectively to survive.
  • Various Tower Defense Scenarios - Defending one point can be hard enough but that's just the beginning. As the game progresses, you'll need to defend moving targets, targets that have dynamic abilities like activating doors/weapons, and even targets that don't want to be protected...

  • Aegis Defenders comes highly recommended. The level design is inspired, challenging players to adapt their playstyle on the fly, and the gameplay is riveting and enjoyable. And it's all just so charming, with vibrant characters, witty dialogue, and a story that unfolds at a natural pace.

  • Aegis Defenders is an indie that has a chance to be a standout of 2018. Most of the key ingredients to a winning formula are here; engaging and addictive gameplay on both the solo and multiplayer fronts, a nice presentation, and just the right amount of innovation.

  • Aegis Defenders is probably one of the tougher games I’ve played in recent memory, and that’s all thanks to the tower defense sections. Fans of that genre probably won’t have too many issues, but newcomers playing alone might find those sections pretty daunting until they master switching characters, learning the arena layouts, and know what traps to use when. If you have a friend to play co-op, you’ll likely have a much easier time. Still, it’s a pretty good game for GUTS Department’s first outing.

  • Aegis Defenders mixes platform, puzzle and the tower defense genres pretty well and gets a high score because of this. But the lack of story is what dings the likeability. Pretty sure few people won't understand what is going on with the story and so forth.

  • Aegis Defenders renews the platform genre and combines it with tower defense elements. As a result, GUTS gives us strategic depth and a very enjoyable experience, especially in cooperative mode. Moreover, its lore and its pixel-art are charming and excellent.

  • It would have been easy for quite a few things to go wrong with a game like Aegis Defenders, from Kickstarter problems to difficulties mashing together its two types of gameplay, but, with the exception of some small hiccups, everything turned out pretty darned smooth. It’s a game I wouldn’t have a hard time recommending to most, but one that is a must for anyone with the opportunity to play through with a friend.

  • With a local co-op buddy Aegis Defenders becomes a fun mix of genres, but when playing solo it can be an exercise in frustration.

  • The strange premise of Aegis Defenders is kept up on its feet by its consistent gameplay mechanics and beautiful aesthetics. Some flaws come from balance and repetition, but this is definitely a strange idea put in practice in a good way.

  • Aegis Defenders tries to provide a great experience with its pixel art visuals and tower defense mechanisms, and although some parts of gameplay are not polished enough, solid tower defense experience alone will worth your time.

  • Aegis Defenders is a metrodivania/tower defense crossover that can be both fun and smart when played in co-op, but that could drive you mad if you try to play on your own.

  • A bold game remarkably combines platform games with tower-defense strategies. Unfortunately, its originality does not resonate with its quality. Neither part of Aegis Defenders is finished properly. And the biggest problem is, the game is almost unplayable –unless you have a fellow gamer for local multiplayer.
