Even if you're not the fan of the 18 wheelers, do yourself a favor and try this game. Nothing can replicate that peculiar feeling of driving across the States at 4AM while your radio is tuned to "Road to hell".
American Truck Simulator scratches the exact same itch that Elite: Dangerous does. While they’re vastly different games, both evoke a sense of the wide open road, of the perfect road trip. Both give you freedom and put you in control of your own destiny and your own direction. Both are ridiculously compelling and they let you set your own pace.
American Truck Simulator caters to a wide array of people. There's something to be said for the serenity of cruising down a highway at night and obeying all the traffic laws. It's also a great opportunity to enjoy some audiobooks or podcasts while somewhat-mindlessly growing a trucking enterprise.
American Truck Simulator marks the beginning of a long adventure on American roads that was worth the wait. The game expands on the gameplay mechanics known from the developer's previous games and adds tons of new things that create a unique trucking experience. Right now it's simply the best game with big trucks.
American Truck Simulator, like the rest of the Truck Simulator series, is polished and entertaining.
Playing American Truck Simulator is really like taking on an extra job, although it never feels that way. The progress you make is slow, but that makes it all the more rewarding when you save up enough money for those nice new tyres you wanted. It might be worth waiting for some more areas to be added, but if you’ve ever dreamt of a great American road trip, American Truck Simulator is just about as good as it gets without doing the real thing.
Excellent successor of Euro Truck Simulator holds to proven concept and adds a few nice features but currently it suffers from an acute shortage of content. [Issue # 261]
American Truck Simulator may seem a little bare right now, with just two states and three trucks, so it’s hard to recommend to newcomers over the sublime Euro Truck Simulator 2. That said, those that enjoyed hauling in Europe will no doubt find enjoyment on the other side of the pond, with new cargo awaiting them and new cities to explore.
As someone who sunk countless hours into Euro Truck Simulator 2, a fresh coat of paint, an unfamiliar set of sights and the challenge of driving on the wrong opposite side of the road left me confident that I'll be sinking just as many hours into American Truck Simulator. It's not all of America right now, but it's an exciting start.
If you love the USA and you have appreciated Euro Truck Simulator 2, you can not miss American Truck Simulator, although it is still poor in content.
It is an odd game… but it is also quite relaxing (well maybe not so much when you take a turn too poorly and bump into a police car).
This is a game for both truck enthusiasts and those that enjoys a slower, almost meditative, gaming experience.
A great start, but American Truck Simulator will really begin to take shape when more states and trucks are added.
While a little more realism would make American Truck Simulator more fun, paradoxical as that may sound, there’s no escaping how fantastically playable it is.
It's a more of the same with different landscapes and truck, but if you loved the Euro chapter, you'll still appreciate this one.
Driving from A to B to C and back - it's a good job simulation with lots of atmosphere but also with room for improvement.
What’s here I wholeheartedly admit is fantastic, but we find ourselves in a Street Fighter V-esque situation where we’re waiting for the full package. The budget pricing for American Truck Simulator goes a long way to assuaging these fears, and there’s still potential for dozens of hours of gameplaying for aspiring truckers.
There is not a lot of room for surprises in this new American Truck Simulator game, but it still is a good simulation of truck life. The atmosphere in the game and the combination of trucks and America's west coast are great.
American Truck Simulator reflected the anxious reality, but also allowed me to appreciate the grandeur of it all. I can finally see what I presume most other Americans have always enjoyed: Endless waves of asphalt paved just for me, veining the contiguous southwest, begging to be casually traversed.
American Truck Simulator can impress if we haven't seen the popular series before. New theater of operations is certainly interesting, but there's just not enough important additions to gameplay. It's hard to see the game as something more than just an expansion pack.
Since 2013, hacks have inflicted upon the world such dross as Grass Simulator, Tea Party Simulator, and Yohjo Simulator. In comparison, American Truck Simulator remains an authentic and gratifying production, one of the few simulators out there still worthy of positive attention.
Few games attempt to channel the myths of the open road, the feeling of going nowhere in particular much too fast.
ATS will surely appeal to trucking veterans who are desperate to explore a fresh location, but for newcomers to the franchise, I implore you, go back and experience Euro Truck Simulator 2 first.
American Truck Simulator isn’t just a fun game, it’s one of the best simulators out there.
American Truck Simulator is as hard-core as a truck simulator gets.
The lack of content is only but formidable flaw of otherwise very successful Truck Simulator.
Quotation forthcoming.
Fundamentally a curiously lovable game - one of long, lonely roads, of painstaking parking manoeuvres, and slapstick write-offs when simple turns are misjudged. There's nothing else quite like SCS's brand of cargo-hauling action. [April 2016, p.119]
After having played ATS for over a dozen hours I put it aside and returned to Euro Truck Simulator 2. Right now ATS is just a foundation for a game and it will take a couple of DLCs to fill it properly with content. [04/2016, p.60]
A fine delivery of the simulated life of an American truck driver and the logistics of the job.
American Truck Simulator is not a completely new game. Despite whatever its developers say, this is just a big stand-alone expansion for Europe Truck Simulator 2, complete with the same engine, UI and all-too familiar problems.
