Desperados III

Desperados III is a story-driven, hardcore tactical stealth game, set in a ruthless Wild West scenario.

In this long-awaited prequel to the beloved classic Desperados: Wanted Dead or Alive, John Cooper will join forces with the runaway bride Kate, the shady hitman Doc McCoy, the giant trapper Hector, and Isabelle, a mysterious lady from New Orleans. On Cooper’s quest for redemption, his adventures lead him and his gang from rural towns, over swamps and riverbanks, and finally to a dramatic showdown worthy of Wild West legends.

Play smart if you want to succeed. A good plan can make the difference between survival and finding yourself at the business end of a pistol.

Drifter, gunslinger, and natural leader Cooper can kill quietly with a knife, or take out multiple foes with his revolvers. Strongman Hector carries a giant bear trap and can slay the toughest opponents with his trusty axe. Cold blooded bounty hunter McCoy likes to be methodical, using lures, knockout gas, poison syringes and a custom long-range pistol. Kate can fool almost any man with the right outfit, and kills discreetly with her hidden gun. And then there is this mysterious woman from New Orleans, Isabelle…

  • LEVEL (Czech Republic)

Tactical spaghetti western. Filminess, gameplay and atmosphere interwoven in a unique combination. Great musical accompaniment is just the icing on the cake. [Issue#304]

  • Mimimi Games delivers a stellar benchmark for the titles to come both in terms of gameplay cohesion and storytelling in the Far West. Brilliant map design, character synergies and a long-term support plan promise to keep you engaged for more than the initial 25 hours to completion. Make sure to check it out. Probably the RTS of 2020.

  • Do not pick up the game if you are looking for a fast-paced adventure heavy on whipping out six-shooters. Fans of real-time tactics should give it a look though because the gameplay here is top-notch. With Mimimi still improving the game with the Bounty Hunters update and level editor, Desperados III is a game you will want holstered when riding off into the sunset.

  • Incredibly well put-together and intricately crafted by a developer at the top of their field, Desperados III is a genuine masterpiece of stealth, Stetsons, and steely-eyed heroics.

  • Mimimi Games did it again. Desperados III is a love letter to a genre of a long forgotten past, beautifully crafted in every single detail. John Cooper and his friends are finally back in action, and let’s hope they are here to stay for a long time.

  • Desperados III is an absolute hoot. The best strategy game of the year, cowboys and chaos never felt this good and this revival is one for the ages. It may be lethally challenging, but its gung-ho strategy is a masterpiece of design that’s accentuated by lovable rogues, lively levels and a dedication to its genre that can easily outdraw any challengers to its throne.

  • Desperados III is the ultimate expression of a game genre that initiated in 1999 with Commandos, and it's an immediate blast to play.

  • Desperados 3 is the latest addition to the niche real-time tactics genre and it succeeds in everything it promises. Complex stealth tactics, dynamic and diverse Wild West environments and playable characters, evoke the player’s imagination and poke him to think out of the box, utilizing the available gaming tools.

  • Desperados III is a downright fantastic real-time tactics title. The gameplay is simple to understand and get started with and each stage puts players to the test. While each stage is contained in size, it provides a sandbox of open opportunity for players to experiment. Rarely does failing leave a bad taste in a player’s mouth. Instead, it simply inspires players to keep trying until they finally succeed. The utterly compelling gameplay immediately ropes you in and simply doesn’t let up. The real-time stealth tactics genre is back in grand fashion thanks to Mimimi Games and Desperados III.

  • Desperados III feels both familiar and fresh at the same time. A great deal of the muscle memory and character interactions we learned in Shadow Tactics: Blades of the Shogun are at play here, but a whole host of improvements, and a brand new character in Isabelle, make it all feel brand new. A true refinement of an already excellent formula, Desperados III is a masterclass in real-time tactical stealth, and I simply cannot recommend it highly enough.

  • Everything it does, it does incredibly well. Whether you’re looking to hop into stealth tactics for the first time or you’re an old pro, I would wholeheartedly recommend you check out Desperados 3. It is, without question, one of the best games I’ve played all year.

  • Mimimi Games puts their pedigree to work in Desperados 3 in fantastic ways. It’s not easy, and sometimes it’s downright cruel, but when a plan comes together in Desperados 3’s vast and varied Wild West, it’s supremely satisfying.

  • If you are craving a game like the original Commandos, this is the one to get: Great level design, likable characters, sleek mechanics and challenging missions make Desperados 3 every bit as good as Shadow Tactics, which is quite a compliment on its own.

  • Desperados III feels natural as a new entry in the series while being an innovative and really good actual game. A game that, without much noise, results in one of the best recent stealth experiences.

  • Following on from Shadow Tactics, Mimimi Productions have continued their excellent form with Desperados. While the maps can be a little dull and the game arguably slow, the level of tactical nuance and environmental storytelling, as you progress through engaging and challenging missions, is second to none. Desperados III is an undeniably great game, the best in the series and arguably one of the best in the genre.

  • If you've played Shadow Tactics, the high quality of Desperados III will come to you as no surprise. This game checks off all the mandatory elements of the stealth tactics genre: lots of ways to complete a mission, an intriguing story (and less obvious than it seems initially), cool characters, and a difficulty level that motivates, but doesn't frustrate.

  • While the style of the game might not be for everyone, for those that enjoy this genre, they’ll be in for an absolute treat. Desperados III is an outstanding accomplishment and should not be missed.

  • The return of Desperados should be maybe more accurately called “The return of Shadow Tactics”, but that’s not a bad thing at all. Desperados 3 hasn’t lost any of the sneaky charm of the previous game and it adds new stuff to do, too.

  • From its effective narration to the depth of its gameplay, through its replayability and its challenges, Desperados III achieves almost flawlessness, and, if you are fans of the genre, we can only advise you to go for it.

  • Desperados 3 is a superb package. It's a clever, cunning game of stealth and tactical thinking that, thanks to a generous quick-save system and wealth of informative visual cues, entices you to tinker with all the toys it has on offer and fully explore the possibility spaces of its elaborate levels. There's no need for a do-over here; Desperados 3 is a dead-eye shot on the very first try.

  • If you like Commandos and the Wild West, this is your game. It is an outstanding stealth and real-time strategy game, with one of the best level design we’ve seen in the genre.

  • Mimimi Games returns to the real-time stealth tactical genre with Desperados 3. Across massive levels, players will guide their magnificent five characters toward their objectives. Each hero has their own strength they bring to the team, and they're all essential to survive. Desperados is a game of trial-and-error, expecting quicksaves and quickloads to "solve" each level. There's some small muddiness in the controls and enemy perception, and occasionally the punishment for slight mistakes in character or item placement feels punitive. That said, Desperados 3 nonetheless remains a fantastic follow-up to the first game and another win for the developer.

  • With some interesting backstories for each of the characters, some cool abilities - particularly with Isabelle, and some lovely settings, Desperados III is an enjoyable, albeit slow, puzzle-solving experience. But it is that same methodical experience that won’t suit all gamers, especially those who want some quick-fire action.

  • It’s pretty pricey so you may want to wait for a sale… but there’s a lot of enjoyment to be had here and the credit for using certain methods to get through obstacles will give completionists a reason to go back and replay levels.

  • Desperadoes III is one of the best surprises this year. Maybe it is not a game for everyone, but if you like the genre, or if you are a fan of the Wild West, this is a game that you cannot miss.

  • esperados 3 is simply staged staggeringly: The Western atmosphere is tight for editing, I can experiment tactically with the five characters, sneak through almost completely or occasionally incite shootings. My heroes comment on the action, and with a few exceptions, the behavior of the opponents is logical and understandable. I even fail because I always know what was wrong and can optimize accordingly. This is what modern real-time tactics must look like. Be sure to play it.

  • After Shadow Tactics, Mimimi Games gets another big hit in the real-time tactics genre with Desperados III.

  • Fully polished and perfectly crafted, Desperados III feels like the master work of an artisan long involved in their craft.

  • Desperados 3 turns the Wild West into a brilliant tactical playground that will fill you with lead over and over again.

  • A proper sequel to the original Desperados, and a tried-and-true tactical puzzle from Mimimi, the new masters of the genre.

  • Desperados 3 brings the franchise hooting and hollering back to life — and maybe better than ever.

  • Desperados 3 revives ancient times - and not just those of the Wild West. Developer Mimimi successfully breathes new life into a long-lost series from a dying genre. Desperados 3 puts your tactical insight and ability to improvise to the test time and time again, making every win feel like your own. As icing on the cake, the game looks and sounds perfectly atmospheric. You'll love putting a fistful of dollars on the table here - or even a few dollars more.

  • Desperados III is a great tactical stealth game with five diverse characters traversing through large open levels with alternate routes that enhance replay value. Picking off patrols and executing multiple actions works marvelously through both the swamps and the frontier towns. And with high quality presentation, this is one entry that fans of the genre shouldn't miss.

  • Fans of the Desperados franchise can crank up the difficulty and bring out a stopwatch to time their actions. Newcomers will enjoy the game even if they have no idea of who John Cooper is and what he did before. Either way, you’re in for 20 glorious hours.

  • Desperados III is a solid and enjoyable RTS. The fun of setting up combos in Showdown mode can't be underestimated, and the variety in level design keeps the game feeling fresh long after its basic mechanics become repetitive. If you're looking for a Wild West-style game that's more about subtlety than shootouts, Desperados III fits the bill.

  • This is a significant step forward compared to the already excellent Shadow Tactics, from which the formula is taken in full and finally refined in many ways.

  • Game World Navigator Magazine

Great 4X strategies have a thing called “one more turn” syndrome. With Desperados 3, it’s “one more neutralized lookout” syndrome. Its levels are big and so well-designed you might end up playing until dawn. [Issue#247, p.34]

  • Desperados 3 is a fun jaunt through the Wild West on a classic tale of revenge. Mixed with stealth strategy with a diverse roster of badasses this real-time tactics game gives rise to a lot of cool gameplay moments. Yeehaw!

  • Desperados III is a worthy successor to the previous games in the series, and a welcome return to a genre I’d long thought dead and buried. Now, how about a new Commandos?

  • Desperados III marks a triumphant comeback for the classic real-time tactics franchise. Helping Cooper and his gang of misfits distract, assassinate and sneak their way past countless enemies is highly satisfying, as you slowly learn to unleash their skills with perfect timing and precision.

  • Desperados 3 is an uncompromising tactical stealth game that tests your patience and rewards your willingness to experiment. Playing with a charming team of toy soldier-sized assassins in a series of deadly and detailed dioramas is tough and requires a lot of trial and error, but success is more rousing than a whiskey chaser. Dormant for 14 years, in Desperados 3 the series enjoys the most triumphant comeback in the Western genre since Clint Eastwood made Unforgiven.

  • Desperados III is a great stealth tactic game with great graphics, music, voice acting, characters and story but can feel like a rehash of previous games made by the same developers.

  • Desperados III is like a decadent cake. It’s very rich in detail and design, and highly recommended, but that richness is for a certain palette that won’t appeal to everyone. Yes, it can depend on trial-and-error and the loading times can be unsavory. But it’s been awhile since a game plagued my thoughts like Desperados III. Getting a plan to work is a blast, and some excellent characterization prop up the mechanics nicely. Mimimi Games is a worthy successor to the Desperado franchise, and III will convert skeptics.

  • A challenging real-time tactics experience in the old Wild West, Desperados III pulls no punches in its quest for old-school magic.

  • Edge Magazine

Watching a plan come together, guns and voodoo and bear traps working in perfect harmony, is incredibly satisfying. [Issue#348, p.90]

  • Desperados III is a success both artistically and in terms of gameplay. The many references to Sergio Leone's films are awesome. You can definitely put a fistful of dollars on it.

  • Desperados III is more than a worthy successor to the name - it's undoubtedly the best game in the series. It marks the return to form that fans have wanted for so long, as well as a great entry point for new blood. Some might be tempted to say that it's too derivative of Shadow Tactics, but one only needs to play it to experience the differences. For anyone with an interest in real-time tactics (or anyone who wants to see what it's about), Desperados III is the game that keeps on giving.

  • Desperados III is a very good real time stealth game that succeeds in reaching the top of the genre delivering a flawless and deeply engaging experience in a credible (if a bit stereotypical) western world.

  • Desperados 3 is a very good tactical strategy that reminds us of the good old days of PC gaming, but it lacks something new and fresh, and clearly indicates that this genre hasn't developed as much as other mainstream genres.

  • Desperados III won't be the glorious return of the franchise, but it's certainly a great game for the fans of this peculiar subgenre.
