I am not a huge fan of rogue-like/rogue-lite genre in general. I tried 'I wanna be the boshy' and almost threw my laptop after 30 minutes. But I must say this one kicks some ass. Control is intuitive and you don't need more than 5 minutes to get the hang of it. There many weapons to choose from and the synergy between the weapon and the skill set is what makes it pretty awesome. For example, I spent 20 on swiftness to spam dash with spears and that got me down to level 10 in 2 hours. Bosses are pretty challenging at first, but once you get the hang of it, they are all kill-able. Only annoying glitch i found was getting stuck in the teleporting stone nearby food place occasionally, but you just need to teleport back to anywhere else. Music is pretty damn great. Overall, I liked it and I think most of the people will, too.

Let's start things off by saying: Don't let the score put you off. If you are a fan of the metroidvania/rogue-lite genre, this one is right up your alley. I'm going to catagorize some things to hopefully make you understand why I gave the score I did.

    Pros:

    - Tons of items and weapons, but not too much, so you can work out quite quickly what you do and do not like.
    - The bosses, without spoiling anything, are great. They serve as gatekeepers to new areas and that fits perfectly with how the game progression is designed.
    - The enemies all telegraph their moves, but not too much. Enemy variety is probably one of the best in any roguelike to date.
    - The upgrade system works not as a plain level up, but rather you investing points in certain perks and you're able to shift them around at your leisure. This freedom in building your character is rewarding and makes you feel like you really accomplished something when it works out.

    Cons:
    - The music is kinda generic, sometimes even overpowering. That doesn't help the atmosphere in the game, but that is the next point.
    - The atmosphere just isn't there. Where games like Owlboy, Hollow Knight and Dead Cells excel in this area, it's hard to get too caught up in the setting and story. The town, which serves as a hub, feels bland, and so do most of the areas.
    - The clunkyness of the controls. I get that Dungreed is an indiegame, and it has come a long way in its controls, but it's still pretty clunky. Expect falling of ledges, missing enemies and openings menu's accidentally as daily business.
    - The lack of variery in rooms. After about 6/7 playthroughs of the first area, I know all the rooms and the enemies that spawn within them. Playing through the first section of the game is quickly rendered a chore.

In short, Dungreed is a fine game, but one that's still rough around the edges. With a few adjustements however, this game can still improve drastically. I still had fun playing this, and any roguelite lover will too.
