Overall GRID Autosport has taken a step backwards, but in a good way.
One of the outgoing generation's best racers and the kind of game that makes you wish for a new-gen port. [Sept 2014, p.76]
Crucially, Autosport’s career structure and nuanced vehicle handling combine to alleviate any potential frustration for players weaned on effortless victories.
If you enjoyed Racer Driver GRID and the TOCA series, the latest work by Codemasters can not miss in your collection: classic hybrid between arcade and simulator, GRID: Autosport is fun, durable, various and technically spectacular on PC, especially for the valuable lighting effects.
Grid Autosport is a very good racing-game, that should please most fans of the first Grid. Although it is far away from a simulation, it has an extremely authentic race-feeling. The only thing annoying is, that you have to play some races for multiple times, so the career-mode feels a little bit drawn-out.
No flashy new features or buzzwords, just magnificent racing stemming from a refinement of Grid 1’s greatness.
GRID: Autosport is a game aimed at fans of the first GRID. Autosport focuses on different elements than GRID 2 and presents a different approach to racing. Arcade lovers should stay with the previous game, and simulation (well, sort of) fans should consider purchasing Codemasters' new game, even though it's not the prettiest racer out there.
It's less arcade and more simulator than GRID 2, but still somewhere in between. Solid and improved, it's not a revolution, but a great choice for those looking for a racing game.
Despite the lack of choice and freedom in the single player side, GRID Autosport delivers some exciting gameplay thanks to its believable driving model and over the top AI. It might lack some polish on the multiplayer side, but it's still a great comeback for fans of the original game.
For the first time in years, Grid Autosport feels like a Codemasters racing game built to appeal to long-time Codemasters racing fans.
Between arcade and simulation, the perfect synthesis of Codemasters’ racing experience thanks to its EGOcentric graphics and physics, which look far better on PC than old gen consoles.
GRID Autosport is definitely a fun game to play. It is one that anyone can pick up and play without having a working knowledge of the intricacies of a motor vehicle.
Even with a not so strong career mode, the racing can still be fun.
Looks and plays great, but the career mode lacks lot of elements from earlier games.
GRID Autosport is a good game overall.
The more you play it the more it feels like a patched version of previous entries and less like a new iteration of the series. It doesn’t mean you should avoid Autosport if you’re looking for a return to form from Codemasters and the Grid name. Far from it.
Five styles of driving all done justice with one of the most violent and emergent racing engines available make GRID Autosport a compelling title for both car enthusiasts and petrol heads alike. Even if your interest in cars is merely fleeting, GRID Autosport juggles realism and aggressive satisfaction to deliver an intoxicating mix somewhere between the joy of an arcade racer and the science of a true sim.
If GRID Autosport is Codemasters' way of saying 'sorry' for the last one, consider the apology accepted.
They cut the crap, made the good stuff better and here we have the best arcade racer you can buy today. [Aug 2014, p.48]
GRID Autosport performs well, but it never excels. The Codemasters logo is unmistakably synonymous with quality, and in this way we find all the good features of the British developer in this game. The contents are so many, and the hours of gameplay are sufficient to justify a purchase.
The latest GRID entry delivers decent and semi-realistic racing, but the game seems to suffer from lack of all-important polish. Monotonic career mode, blurred cockpits and pretty narrow race options (no rain?) are the biggest issues for me. [Aug 2014]
A pretty fun racing title, but in the pursuit of addressing every bit of feedback after Grid 2, Codemasters hasn't delivered the most cohesive experience. You still need to endure some of the disciplines that you may not like in order to progress through the career, and the two cockpit cameras feel more like a fan-made mod than something devised by the developer itself. Throw in the erratic AI and you might get annoyed quite a few times while playing Autosport.
Gorgeous visuals. Tight driving. No personality.
GRID Autosport is a great comeback after GRID's 2 failure. Interior view is back and the 5 driving disciplines add a new challenge to the game. Career mode is challenging, but after a while it becomes repetitive and boring. On the other hand, multiplayer is the way the career mode should be. Overall is a fun game, but don't expect to be playing it a lot after a while.
Looks like the developers read all the reviews and comments that people had posted about Grid 2 and quickly made an improved version of that game. Their best achievement? Grid is no longer a nerve-wracking experience.
Grid Autosport is a fine racing game, though it's never a thoroughbred one. It's the muscle car that was Grid 2 stripped out and retooled for the track, but too often you can see the solder-work at the seams. In 2008, Race Driver: Grid was a partial reinvention of the racing genre, equipped with a handful of fresh ideas. Six years on, Grid Autosport - while a definite return to form for Codemasters - is simply a rediscovery of it.
Grid Autosport is a good racing game but recycles too many content from Grid 2 to shine as a new must-have installment of the series.
Grid: Autosport definitely has its talents, and regardless of how much you’ve played the series, the actual racing is still great and has excellent controls.
Autosport's top-notch variability, rediscovered love for car simulator, and nerve-racking pace race are tainted by the recycled career and by the system of awarding points which is a moot point. The third Grid could have been fantastic, if Codemasters did not rely on naïve gamers.
Better car physics than Grid 2. Better graphics than Dirt: Showdown. Still somewhat of a dull game because of the shallow career mode and weak atmosphere.
Autosport tries hard to bring back the glory of the first GRID (e.g. the cockpit cam returns) but the career mode was designed horribly, the game engine is aging and the whole thing lacks a spark. [08/2014, p.66]
Friendlier F1 handling in a Grid 2 wrapper, Grid Autosport is a tour through the Codemasters back catalogue. Single player is hampered by predictable AI, but tuning options and improved cornering elevates the multiplayer above Grid 2's.
Unfortunately the time that has passed since the launch of GRID 2 was not enough to justify another round of the same formula with just a few adjustments.
Autosport is a decent option, but when you go deep, the experience is soured by the finer details.
Grid: Autosport is a pretty basic and straightforward type of racing game that wants to be available for everyone. Unfortunately the game doesn’t reach all the way, mainly because of a poor career mode and uneven AI opponents. There are a lot of better alternatives for those who like the genre.
