Puts together a well-made, interesting tale that’s entirely its own. With plenty of the city of Tin Roof to explore, and dozens of characters to question, grill, or shoot the breeze with, there’s more than enough content here to justify the $14.99 price tag on Steam.
Hot Tin Roof has a fantastic soundtrack and a game world I'd love to see explored as a full blooded adventure game. In its current incarnation, the heart and love that went into its making shows, but unfortunately, so do the unraveling seams at the edges. Problematic world navigation and inconsistent writing detract from being truly immersed in one of the more original game settings of recent years.
Where the storytelling is solid enough to take the player along for the ride, the gameplay per se is disappointing, too prone to backtracking and cursed by bad platforming. A shame, because this indie project is pushed forward by sound ideas.
Hot Tin Roof isn’t terrible by any means, it just seems as though Glass Bottom Games had certain things it wanted to put in a game only to realize it had to actually make all those things fit together and the studio never really quite figured out how to make it flow naturally.
Hot Tin Roof: The Cat That Wore a Fedora gives you a comical world to explore, interesting characters and enough collectibles to keep you plugging away. And, although many of its greatest qualities are dulled by odd design choices, it’s still a worthy addition to the Steam store that should satisfy gamers with a penchant for discovery.
