Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is just about the best multiplayer experience the World War II games have to offer. [June 2014]
An intricately detailed RTS, Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is packed with features and refuses to tell you how to use them.
The newest expansion to Men of War demands tons of patience and some knowledge about military equipment. It's one of the biggest strengths of this product, but at the same time its biggest flaw (nobody likes a boring game, no matter the theme). The developers put lots of work into a strictly military aspect (weapons, ammo, multitasking, various difficulties) and it paid off - it is the essence of Assault Squad 2, you just have to like it very much.
It's extremely detailed - a bane for casual gamers, a bliss for expert gamers.
Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is a rich and compelling experience flawed by lack of real gameplay improvements.
A great entry point to the series for those who have not played it before and also makes a solid addition to the collections of all longtime fans as long as they have even the faintest interest in playing with other humans rather than only the Artificial Intelligence.
For veterans of the franchise, I imagine that Assault Squad 2 is another trip down into the deep, engaging pit that is the Men of War franchise. For everyone else, prepare to suffer a good, long time before you begin to master this complex game.
A minimum of innovations will envenom the gamers who know the original. The newcomers will gnash their teeth because the game lacks a meaningful tutorial, with a learning curve that would make even zen master cry. Even though Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is rather difficult, it is an entertaining simulation of war chaos nonetheless.
Men of War: Assault Squad 2 won't be for everyone, but there's something endearing and impressive about its utter lack of concern for your well-being.
There's a lot to this game and I cannot recommend it to anyone new to the genre as tutorial does almost nothing to help you learn the game. For hardcore RTS fans out there, I suspect that this game will be right up your alley.
At 29 Euros, Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is a big bang for the bucks for those who didn’t buy the original game. Fans of the series, though, have all the reasons to complain for what’s more of a DLC than a truly new installment in the franchise.
Solid realtime strategy focused on multiplayer. You'll enjoy it - unless you've played the first one. Almost nothing new has been added.
Men of War: Assault Squad 2 is exactly what you expect from a game in a series known for its extreme hardcore, unforgiving and frustrating strategy titles. Of course there is nothing wrong with that, but because of that is it fun for only a very limited group of players. With better control and some tutorials for beginners, it would be more accessible without losing out on difficulty. The new multiplayer mode where you play 8 versus 8 is a nice addition that makes the game even more chaotic and complex. That is where the game shines, because the singleplayer adds nothing to what the series already did before.
Men of War: Assault Squad 2 turned out to be a very realistic game with lots of content. It's just that the technical flaws ruin the experience.
If you are a fan of the WW2 strategy game genre then I would highly recommend this game as the multiplayer holds many hours of entertainment. The biggest let down for the game is the single player. However, I found myself glued to the seat with such a strong multiplayer, and I can see many people enjoying it.
Unfinished, hardly any optimization and in the end more add-on than sequel: Assault Squad 2 is a mediocre disappointment.
Isn’t it high time to stop resurrecting this stale series? [07/2014, p.60]
