Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock

Crash-landed on a desolate, alien planet, what should've been a routine work-for-hire job for Powell has become a deadly mission to save the merchant vessel Morningstar and her crew. With one man dead and the captain gravely injured, Powell is on his own to repair the ship and find a way to escape the strange gravity well of the empty planet they've landed on.
And if the situation weren't dire enough, the only signs of life on the planet are the remains of a much larger and better equipped ship and her crew, all dead, and not by natural means. What--or who--brought down these ships and is killing their crews? For what reason? And can Powell find a way off-planet before he shares the same fate?

  • If you're new to adventure games and want a gentle introduction that will leave a strong impression, Morningstar definitely should be among your first choices. And even if you're an adventure veteran then you should be able to find something here that will engage you and, like us, leave you hoping for a sequel.

  • Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock is a heavy, challenging adventure game. When it comes to puzzles, you are thrown in at the deep end completely, as there are rarely any hints. The result is a pure point-and-click experience that both rewards and frustrates.

  • Morningstar doesn’t only appreciate your time, but it’s easy on the senses too. There are only a few cut-scenes, but all animations and scenes are nicely done, even though clean, abandoned environments have been done to death.

  • In the end, I enjoyed my time with Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock. Anyone who has history playing these types of games will feel right at home – just don’t expect anything really new.

  • Space out one of the voice actors, and Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock is quite the atmospheric experience, with an interesting (albeit cut-short story), detailed visuals and pleasant flow in its gameplay.

  • Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock isn’t anything new of course. It’s familiar sci-fi tropes alongside well-worn point-and-click puzzling. Convention can of course still be appealing, it is just a pity this adventure doesn’t have much of an identity to set it apart.

  • It works as a classic point & click adventure, although it feels a little bit short. If you're just looking for a game of this genre, it's worth a try.

  • Despite some solid production values, Morningstar: Descent to Deadrock is just too short and uninspired to strongly recommend.

  • Morningstar reminded me of the movie Red Planet starring Val Kilmer: a promising beginning, a speck an intrigue in the middle and a devastating disappointment in the end.
