Neo Cab

Neo Cab is a visual novel about emotional survival in an automated world.

You play as Lina, the last human cab driver. It’s your very first night driving the lonely streets of Los Ojos, and your best friend has just disappeared.

Is she in grave danger... or just the flakiest friend ever? Either way, now you need to find cash, a place to crash, and some answers.

Your only leads are the diverse cast of characters you pick up in your cab, but getting them to open up isn’t always easy. The anarchist punks don’t trust you, the corporate yuppies don’t see you, and the cops won’t leave you alone. But if you can balance honesty, empathy, and your own emotional health, you might just learn their secrets.

Can you survive late-stage capitalism long enough to save your friend?

STAY ON THE ROAD. STAY ON THE SEARCH. STAY HUMAN.

Every pax is a puzzle. Whether you like them or not, everyone has their own story to tell.

Lina’s best course for survival is to keep driving. Piece together what has happened to Savy as you help Lina navigate the city grid.

Each passenger interaction will affect Lina’s mood; as her emotions become more intense, some choices will be taken away, while other choices will be unlocked.

Neo Cab features a branching narrative with pax stories written by Leigh Alexander, Kim Belair, Bruno Dias, Duncan Fyfe, Paula Rogers & Robin Sloan.
Featuring an original soundtrack by Obfusc (Monument Valley, House of Cards)

  • I loved Neo Cab’s story, characters, and simple though thoughtful game mechanics. Emphatically, this is a ride worth catching.

  • Neo Cab leaves the illusion of having met someone, human beings in virtual disguise. Chance Agency has hit the spot, simulating that humanity that wanted to praise.

  • Despite its dark themes, there is a quirky charm in its several dialogues and the game does a fine job of debating relevant societal issues. If you’re into visual novels, then you’re used to doing lots of reading and advancing through simple interactions, which is exactly what Neo Cab offers. As a branching narrative game, your choices are perceived by the system. It feels good to have an impact on the story, but the focus here is clearly on connecting with people and affecting their lives. After all, one could say “Isn’t that what life is all about?”

  • Neo Cab is a relaxing ride, ideal for the moments before you go to sleep so that you can spend the whole night awake, pondering your choices. Hail this cab. You won’t regret it.

  • Neo Cab’s malevolent tech-noir is a vehicle for exploring, and ultimately surviving, the tenacity of its passengers and the ambivalence of its driver. As a narrative adventure Neo Cab is full of conflicted, enigmatic, and sophisticated characters all vying for validation in a tortured world. As an opaque lens on social responsibility and morality, it’s as distressing as it is compulsive. Neo Cab’s tech-addled dystopia functions a travelogue to the pain and purpose of being human.

  • Neo Cab is a captivating exploration of a cyberpunk city, not including the pretty visuals and ambient synth soundtrack. However, its satellite stories gripped me and the core narrative feels like a detour.

  • Neo Cab manages to interweave a well-built cyberpunk dystopia with a cast of memorable characters, delivering an impactful story-driven experience.

  • Neo Cab, a California cyberpunk back-country investigation, features an intriguing storyline and neat storytelling with an intriguing tale of engaging stories that offer the feeling of sharing with Lina's passengers a real piece privacy. An atmospheric title, just like its synthetic music, in which the conversations with the clients of the VTC are as many elements to advance the plot but reveal themselves to be tracks given to the one who plays there to develop his own reflection on both personal and contemporary issues.

  • Neo Can is ambitious and thoughtful, but it sometimes overshoots into something too bleak.

  • Neo Cab is best enjoyed if we forget about the limited gameplay options and focus on the plot, a tale of science fiction with thriller elements in a terrifying future.

  • Neo Cab is very similar to story-based indie titles, but the difference is that it is telling its story way better, and If the gameplay had more depth or if the characters had voice, it could have become an absolute hit.

  • Neo Cab has a good sense for subtlety and for real human emotion.

  • Neo Cab is a delightful experience that sometimes trips over itself due to certain design choices. Make sure to check out the demo before purchasing.

If not quite a five-star ride, Neo Cab is an empathetic and stingingly perceptive insight into the challenges of freelance life. [Issue#139, p.121]

  • Neo Cab might suffer from inconsistencies and presentation issues in some places, but as a depiction of a near-future society corrupted by tech fetishization, and an exploration of how humans are adapting to automation and the rise of the gig economy, it's got plenty to say about how important it is that we all look out for one another. This is a forward-thinking game, but the issues it explores are extremely relevant in 2019, which makes for an engaging, stimulating narrative experience, even if the central mystery of your friend's disappearance is not particularly interesting.

  • A short but entertaining and beautiful look at cyberpunk dystopia, through the unlikely lens of a gig economy taxi driver.

  • Conceptually interesting visual novel with too rigidly constructed situations.
