For a short adventure that took around 5-6 hours to complete, it’s a refreshing change of pace from the grit and grime reality normally sought by today’s modern game. Planet collapsing tragedy aside, this adventure is not one in need of rescue.
Another great offering from the Pixeljunk team.
Gleefully swift, ingeniously puzzling, and kind to your senses through delightful art and a terrific soundtrack, Shooter is received with open arms on the PC. All we need now is its 2011-released sequel to really satisfy that post-game hunger.
If you didn't play the original 2009 release on PlayStation Network, now you have the chance to redeem yourself. Even if it lasts almost five hours, PixelJunk Shooter is a fun and deep shoot'em up, with a clever twin stick control scheme. Sail aboard the Pinita Colada: you won't regret it.
A simple shooter with some cool puzzles. It won't change your world but acts as a pleasant enough distraction. [Apr 2014, p.59]
Playing right through will take you about five or five-and-a-half hours, so it’s not a long game - but you know what else is repetitive and takes less time than that? Call of Duty. Do a value-for-money comparison on that.
Standing out in a deluge of indie games, PixelJunk Shooter looks great – production-wise, everything, from graphics to controls, is much more refined and thought-out. But the gameplay itself is too linear and simplistic than the clever, mind-bending puzzles we have enjoyed over the last few years. They should have ported this one sooner.
