  • The developers at Abbey Games (ah, no wonder the abbess was such a tough cookie!) have created a thoroughly charming encounter system that sets it apart from the usual tactical combat.

  • A charming and unique turn-based adventure that hides an intricate battle system behind all the whimsy.

  • Power Unlimited

We're happy to conclude Renowned Explorers is indeed exactly as fun as it looks. There’s a very small learning curve, yet the game offers enough depth to keep it fun for a long time. [Sept. 2015, p. 065]

  • While in truth, it’s possible that some might tire of its regimented systems and board game esque beats, the fact remains that Renowned Explorers still stands as one of the best surprises of the year so far that wannabe adventurers of any age can enjoy.

  • Renowned Explorers is the perfect example of a game that's easy learn but difficult to master. I don't usually enjoy games that have a big element of chance, but I like this one. It's too easy to get stuck on a boss, but that's part of what being an explorer is all about.

  • Renowned Explorers International Society is a strategy game of big proportions. The expeditions are always full of surprises, and you are never certain that you will come out unscathed. The game truly delivers a thrilling and enjoyable experience.

  • Hand drawn turned based strategy where you lead the explorers on an adventure to become the best there are. With bandits, treasures and wild animals, there is never a dull moment in Renowned Explorers.

  • Funny and pleasantly immersive adventure with an innovative turn-based duels, duel emphasizes the ability to make the right decision. What a pity there are not enough stories and content.

  • Renowned Explorers combines elements from strategy, resource management and role playing games in a remarkable and smooth way. Even though the difficulty level is above average, the game is still considered as an interesting suggestion for anyone who is looking for a nice adventure.

  • The systems are surprisingly complex, given the cartoonish presentation and focus on enjoying yourself. While mastering it isn’t easy, it’s plenty forgiving if you want it to be, and the replay value alone easily makes it worth the $19.99 price on Steam.

  • Renowned Explorers: International Society was a fun and challenging experience, but with few contents. The Emperor’s Challenge adds what the players want, but maybe it is not enough to start a new expedition.

  • Don't let the graphics and cheerful mood fool you - Renowned Explorers is an unforgiving and demanding strategy game, with deep systems and combat. It's not necessarily a bad approach, but it seems that it needed a bit more work - particularly regarding the lack of tutorials and uneven difficulty level.

  • It may look like a casual game but the mechanics including tactical party management as well as unlockable and combinable abilities keep you motivated. At least until routine sets in. Solid entertainment for aficionados of turn-based board games.

  • Renowed Explorers offers a lot of stuff to love. The game is complex, the combat is nice and traveling is worth while as well. There are a few things we miss about this game though: a good tutorial, the possibility to change the difficulty level and locations to travel to.

  • Another roguelike that explains a tales of pirates with some technical issues but interesting gameplay mechanics.

  • The constant support of Abbey Games through DLC, however, could be the key to a more complete experience, at least from a content point of view.

  • I'm not chomping at the bit to keep playing, but I am curious to delve deeper. Different combinations of explorers can beget different tactics both in and out of battle. That thought alone is enough to keep me from uninstalling it.

  • LEVEL (Czech Republic)

Exploring game will entertain you with its perfect combat system, but also severely frustrates with the exaggerated role of chance. [Issue#256]
