Sir, You are Being Hunted gets repetitive fast. I like the graphics and ambiance, but searching needles from hostile haystack is not my cup of tea. [June 2014]
As a stealth game, Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a refreshingly different and unscripted approach with a haunting but still light-hearted atmosphere.
Sir, You Are Being Hunted is stock-full of superb dark humour that ties the game firmly to the country of its origin.
Non-linearity is the key feature of Sir, You Are Being Hunted, but your range of clever tricks is limited, even though old buildings are crammed with things. Here, freedom is of a different kind, the one that is rarely seen in other video games – you pay for each of your mistakes.
Take heed: this is one tough blighter. [Aug 2014, p.79]
It's all terribly tense and perfectly entertaining until you're two thirds through. At that point, unfortunately, a routine kicks in that you hadn't quite expected from this type of procedurally generated sandbox.
A real fresh setting that let's you forget that it's just a game character that's being hunted. A great achievement for a game so unsightly.
By the end, most of its sights and systems will be all too familiar. But between its uniquely provincial setting and dedication to undergrowth stealth, there’s more than enough novel in Sir that you’ll gladly be the rabbit in its lights at least one time through.
Even in the cramped indie survival game genre, there's nothing quite like Sir, You Are Being Hunted.
With too many enemies present, Sir, You Are Being Hunted would simply be an open-world shooter, but with too few, it would be boring. While many might find its empty spaces dull, they always carry with them a hidden threat that a pipe-smoking robot has you in its crosshairs with its steely finger on the trigger.
Crazy premises and a great atmosphere will keep you involved for a while, but it really lacks in terms of gameplay depths and rhythm. You are being hunted, and the main solution to that is crouching. Not very gentleman-like.
Although dripping with atmosphere and loaded with great gags, Sir, You Are Being Hunted’s survival elements feel unnecessary and its stealth bores.
A very British sense of humour and a compelling mix of Metal Gear and DayZ, but the randomised maps and dispiriting endgame does it no favours.
It has an interesting and attractive premise, but the game never fulfills its whole potential and ends up being too repetitive.
The first impression relies solely on the game's atmosphere. By the time you launch it several times over you'll find out it's far too simple and mechanical to hold you for a longer time.
Sneaking through the thickets, luring enemies away with stones and gripping situations are right up the alley of any stealth fan. Sadly, there's not much more you can do in the game.
Unique style and return to the roots of stealth games – Big Robot’s game promises a lot. And it delivers at first, but quickly reveals all its cards and becomes tediously repetitive. I was also annoyed by the fact that you can only save in specific points of the island, so death often means losing half an hour of progress. [07/2014, p.66]
Sir, You Are Being Hunted is a game that requires patience, attention and some trial and error to master its mechanics. It has its flaws and it's not well balanced, but at the end of the day it may provide some nice hours in the English countryside.
Sir, You Are Being Hunted needs something more – a change in objective, focus or challenge to sustain engagement beyond the point when snatching teleporter pieces from robots on the coast loses its sense of mystery. As it is, it’s caught in an awkward hinterland of its own.
Sir, You Are Being Hunted has long long dead times due to the rogue-like structure and to some design problem. It's an interesting game, but not a very good one.
Sir, You Are Being Hunted has a delightful sense of humor, but it’s just not enough to carry the rest of the experience.
While the team deserves praise for the unusual scenario and the equally weird name, the game itself is not as different as it wants to make you believe.
The essential elements of Sir, You Are Being Hunted--the conflicts between man and machine, between hunter and hunted--aren't getting their due. Here is a game that wants to tell a basic story, but that's left too much space between its opposing forces to make them duel.
Sir You Are Being Hunted has revealed all it has — much of which is tedious or repetitive — after a few hours.
Certainly different and endearing, but struggles to keep up with the initial momentum. [Issue#149, p.116]
