Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2

Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is the only multi-platform, first-person, modern shooter exclusively designed around the sniper experience. It takes the bulls-eye precision of its predecessor to new and exciting heights, offering more diverse sniper challenges; a rebuilt AI system and the thrilling “one shot, one kill” precision that made the original a huge hit, selling 3 million copies worldwide. Taking advantage of the advanced capabilities of the CryENGINE3, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 also delivers striking graphic environments.

Key Features

  • Motion Sense Trigger System: an innovative first in which the way the player touches the controller influences the on-screen shot. Like in real-world sniping, in-game shooting requires a steady squeeze of the pad’s trigger so that when the round is fired, the rifle is more accurate. Jerk the trigger and the round is thrown off, thus missing the target and alerting a highly motivated enemy to your presence.
  • Realistic Ballistics: the hallmark of the Sniper franchise is the realism of its shooting dynamics. Wind speed, distance, gravity and bullet-drop all play critical roles in the performance of your shot.
  • Refined Shooting Mechanics: a proper breathing technique to steady your heart rate is as important as calculating the time on target of your round, and the best snipers control both their heart and their head. From acquisition of target until the slow steady trigger pull, a sniper must pull together everything to achieve the ideal “one shot; one kill.”
  • Improved Enemy AI: the Artificial Intelligence (AI) system was completely re-tooled and designed from scratch. Much of the improvements were made possible from the switch to the CryEngine 3. Expect everything from flanking movements to frontal assaults as the enemy tries to engage you in close quarters where your rifle is less effective.
  • New Target-Rich Environments: Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 adds new urban environments like Sarajevo and treacherous mountain terrain to go along with jungles that are as lush and deadly as ever.
  • Various Difficulty Levels: To diversify gameplay and make it accessible to the widest group of gamers, CI Games is introducing three difficulty levels that totally change the nature of the game. You decide how to play – either relax and be the ultimate predator or test your skill and experience the game on Expert Mode.
  • Bullet-Cam: everyone’s favorite feature returns to reward expert shots and show the battlefield from a totally new viewpoint. See what the transfer of kinetic energy – a bullet’s true stopping power – can do to the enemy from 1000 meters or more!
  • Bullet Penetration: concealment doesn’t necessarily mean cover. In Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2, bullets behave as they would in real life and are able to dispatch enemies hiding behind various types of covers. You can also try to line up your enemies and let a single round take out an entire squad. Wait ‘til you see that on Bullet Cam!
  • Expanded List of Sniper Rifles: Try out the world’s most advanced sniper rifles, each of them meticulously recreated so that they accurately simulate the modern weaponry found on today’s battlefields.
  • New Gear: own the night with the introduction of thermal and night vision optics, plus a pair of powerful binoculars critical for locating the enemy before they spot you.

  • The game play is satisfying and does keep up with an entertaining ride as a Sniper. While there is multiplayer, it did not seem to be part of the primary design of the game. It’s almost an afterthought to the blast of a single player experience.

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2's story and stealth make for a satisfying and entertaining single-player campaign. The frustratingly few-and-far-between checkpoints and MIA multiplayer are disappointments, but this is a worthy sniping experience, especially given the game's budget price.

  • While some aspects of the game are worthwhile on higher difficulty settings, the hand holding on Casual and Medium is excessive.

  • With its visuals, the shallow storyline, its limited size and gameplay failures, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 proves that games being delayed several times often show deficiencies in quality, which results in an unexpectedly low fun factor. The chance to surpass its predecessor unfortunately hasn't been taken.

  • As a direct comparison Sniper Elite V2 is a better shooter, but if you can't be without a sniper rifle (and considering the price) this City Interactive FPS can give you some splash of fun.

  • You get a teases of such fun, but all too often, it gets lost under the cloud of rigidity.

  • What it is missing to really deserve your full attention would mainly have been more content and secondly more freedom in the way you approach its missions. A Ghost Warrior 3 in Crysis-like environments would truly be just what the doctor ordered.

  • The short campaign is best played in small doses, since its action otherwise rings a bit repetitive. Most frustrating, though, is the broken multiplayer mode, which only features two maps and one mode anyway, severely diminishing the title’s replay value.

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is a disappointing experience that fails to deliver on the visceral idea of sniping. When recent games have done it so much better, it is hard not to draw comparison.

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 doesn’t hit home in any way,. The hardcore version of the game could entertain the sniper-enthusiast, but a linear design and bad multiplayer makes this a game that has little to offer.

  • CD-Action

It’s roughly the first Sniper with all its shortcomings, including strong linearity, repetitiveness, shallow story and inept multiplayer. [CD-Action 05/2013, p.52]

  • Even if you zoom all the way in, you will be hard-pressed to find any semblance of fun in this monotone shooting gallery.

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is like a bargain at the dodgy used car dealer around the corner.

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 proves two things: it’s tough to develop a good sniper game and even harder to turn that into a good multiplayer game. The single-player entertains in its first few hours, when not expecting too much on a technical side, because this is a budget-game. Unfortunately it’s blatantly obvious how scripted this game is and you’ll be slaughtering complete terrorist cells like Vasily Zaytsev trained you himself. The multiplayer’s been set up completely wrong, and it amounts to nothing more than camping, camping and more camping.

  • Sniper 2 is a big disappointment. It's hard to hide mixed (at best!) feelings, after all these grand and confident announcements, after the tales of a big budget and promises of a new quality based on CryEngine 3. Still - there is fun in there somewhere. You can enjoy being thrown into exotic places, completing some of the tougher challenges and taking some really spectacular shots. Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 can appeal to enthusiasts of the sniper profession, but they have to accept all the flaws and the fact that last year's Sniper Elite V2 is a much better game.

  • Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 isn’t bereft of good ideas or mechanics, it’s just that they’re all trapped in a short series of levels that rarely give you anything all that interesting to do with them.

  • The tough reality is, Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is an outdated game from top to bottom.

  • A dumb shooter that feels like a rubbish stealth section dragged out across the length of an entire game.

  • Avoid Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 at all costs – it will destroy your mental balance with a single shot.

  • PC Master (Greece)

The technical aspects are all below medium. When will the sniper shooter sub-genre catch a break? [May 2013]

  • Objective: Follow Diaz. Objective: Do everything he says. Objective: Buy a different game.

  • There are many problems that prevent us from recommending it. A poor AI, a short campaign and a multiplayer meant to be forgotten. We really hope that all the good ideas left behind finally surface if City Interactive decides to continue with the series.

  • Ghost Warrior 2 is just a series of corridors and the same typical shooting levels we've seen millions of times, only with no inspiration whatsoever.

  • The task set before Sniper: Ghost Warrior 2 is not a hard one: make sniping fun. Apparently, City Interactive didn't get the memo, filling the game with a never-ending sequence of following an NPC guide through uneventful, recycled, and ugly environments. Even at four hours, Sniper Ghost Warrior 2 requires a level of patience and commitment that even the best snipers won't be capable of.
