The Last Door Season 2 was exactly what I expected it would be. It’s scary, the story is amazing and weird, the music is beautiful, and overall, it was just a wonderful series.
A great second half for a great graphic adventure. If you love classic horror you cannot miss it… unless you’re allergic to huge pixels.
With a script that could have easily come from the haunted pen of H.P. Lovecraft, a haunting, minimalist string soundtrack by Carlos Viola and a genuine understanding of what constitutes true, primal terror, The Game Kitchen brilliantly concludes The Last Door’s narrative with an adventure that will richly reward players looking past the ultra-retro presentation.
If Lovecraft and Poe could play The Last Door, they would be delighted by its remarkable atmosphere. [05/2016, p.44]
Even if it looks like it came from the Commodore 64 era, the second season of The Last Door is a chilling adventure with a haunting soundtrack. It is a Lovecraftesque journey from mental asylums to opium dens, a proper horror game that refrains from using cheap scare tactics.
Its puzzles may be a bit lackluster but you’ll be too busy unraveling its dark secrets and conspiracies, worrying whether your character will survive the episode and terrified by the sudden sounds coming from next door to notice. Whether as feature film, TV series or episodic game, it matters little: bring on Season 3.
Anyone interested in horror, Lovecraft, or top-notch point-and-click adventures has no excuse for missing this one.
The Last Door opens up another suspenseful, extremely retro-styled exploration of Victorian England and the occult with a second season even better than the first.
