Even with the issues that arise from massive gaps between checkpoints and a few niggles here and there, Tower 57 is still a blast, accomplishing its goal of reminding us why these types of games from the Amiga era ended up being classics. The humor that comes from the oddities of the twisted world provides endless charm, the lush environments are eye-pleasing and the combat is fast-paced, challenging and just plain fun. It’s a terrific action game worth checking out for retro game enthusiasts (and everyone else, for that matter) and one you’ll be coming back to…even if it’s just because you stormed away for a moment after a mistimed rocket launcher blast killed you right before the boss and sent you back to square one.
Though not flawless, this tribute to the 16bit era ignites the flame in not just one Amiga player, and can be equally recommended to all fans of shooters and couch-playing. [Issue#280]
If you’re looking for that "sweet, yet bitter" nostalgic feel, with the good old days on your AMIGA or any 16 bit console coming to your mind, then Tower 57 is a game you have to try.
A beautiful game, particularly good for two players. It needs something else to be unforgettable, but fans of the genre will definitely enjoy it.
If you are a fan of pixel art or Amiga-style twin-stick shooters, you will probably have a nice time with Tower 57, especially if you are playing with a friend.
Tower 57 feels refreshing from the usual band of retro-inspired games right from the get-go, but it’s pacing issues and poor use of checkpoints often make the game a struggle to progress through. Yet despite it all, there remains a competent gameplay loop that is fun to play, alongside a world that is a delight to explore. Like the developers say, this may be a game that is better played with friends, but even a solo player who is looking for a new top down shooter inspired by games from the SNES era should be able to find some enjoyment out of Tower 57.
Sold twin-stick fundamentals executed to reasonably successful effort. [Issue#269, p.62]
Tower 57 is a great tribute to the Commodore Amiga 500. The game succeeds in capturing the essence of 16 bits old school shooters, but it has yet some problems to be solved.
Tower 57 reminds you of good old Pixel Art days, priced at 11.99$ only, and even though it’s pretty short, will still bring you some real fun.
Tower 57 is altogether a solid game. It doesn't quite deliver twin-stick gameplay on par with its presentation, but it's still pretty enjoyable. The variety of weapons is nice, and the scenarios presented in each stage make good use of them. It's also great to a visit a world that's so lovingly crafted. The sprite work and animations are very well done. If time permits, gamers should strive to fit at least two playthroughs into their busy schedule, just to see everything.
