Umbrella Corps

Join the corps! Umbrella Corps is a new fast-paced third-person shooter set in the Resident Evil universe. The competitive online game will feature quick, intense matches in compact battle zones themed from historic Resident Evil environments such as an Umbrella Facility map. Umbrella Corps utilizes the Unity engine developed by Unity Technologies.
Umbrella Corporation, a ruthless international pharmaceutical company, had been known for its genetic experiments and biological weaponry that led to worldwide devastation including the infamous Raccoon City incident. Although the organization was brought down in 2003, its legacy of bio-terrorism continued. In the present day, corporations with nebulous interests in bio-weaponry have hired squads of special forces for experimental battles in restricted virus-infected areas against other mercenaries.

FEATURES:

  • Close Quarters Battle – high-intensity, quick-play matches with no place to hide
  • Fast-paced competitive team shooter – players can compete online in adrenaline-fueled matches
  • Variety of unique match options – compete in various modes including the high-stakes One Life Match mode where players only get one chance apiece per round to take down the other team
  • “The Experiment” single player mode – players hone skills in a coliseum style horde-like mode in more than 20 missions with varying objectives
  • Resident Evil backdrop – new and reimagined environments such as the Umbrella Facility, Village, and Tricell HQ are filled with enemies such as zombies, Cerberus dogs or Ganados which add an extra layer of threat or opportunity to the maps
  • Analog aim and cover system – flexible system allows for lean and height adjustments for more precise control when firing from cover
  • Gun and grenade based weaponry plus specialized gear with Resident Evil flair:
    • Brainer – a powerful melee axe which goes straight into the skull
    • Tactical Shield – an arm-mounted guard allowing players to utilize a zombie as cover
    • Terrain Spikes – boot-mounted spikes for trampling enemies
    • Zombie Jammer – a device which repels zombies only when active

  • CD-Action

Umbrella Corps’ metascore suggests that it’s one of the worst games of this generation, but if you look past its low budget and bugs, you’ll see a fresh, unconventional shooter brimming with brilliant small innovations. [09/2016, p.52]

  • Game World Navigator Magazine

Every level is very small, and no matter where you decide to hole up, it will be easy for enemies to flank you. It’s not bad by itself, but such design makes cover system – which was to become one of Umbrella Corps’ trump cards – redundant. So it comes as no surprise that combat quickly devolves into chasing after one another with one-hit-kill ax in hand. Of course, it’s hard to talk about tactics or teamplay in this lumberjack’s paradise. [Issue#211, p.56]

  • Umbrella Corps has potential and interesting concepts - and not much more. Few engaging moments can't hide the overall mediocrity and lack of polish. Patches can improve the game in a long run, but so far there's little to be excited about.

  • What it boils down to is that Umbrella Corps is an interesting idea that had potential, but was ultimately ruined by poor execution.

  • That being said though, this is not a fantastic game by any account and while there’s a little fun to be had in a frantic online match, there are much better ways to get your competitive shooter fix.

  • Umbrella Corps has no clue what it wants to be, and that translates into a frustrating, confounding experience. Tiny maps, wildly unbalanced gameplay and a general lack of polish and focus makes this one Resident Evil entry that you’re better off avoiding.

  • Just, unenjoyable. A side project that should never have been attempted.

  • Umbrella Corps is a multiplayer action with zero value. The game is flawed with all sorts of issues, including dysfunctional matchmaking, small number of players, poor visuals and tragic AI of zombies. Hands off.

  • Umbrella Corps is a big game from a major publisher in a popular franchise in that franchise’s anniversary year, and it’s both awful and dead on arrival. Now I see why Capcom didn’t tell anyone that it came out.

  • It’s hard to imagine anyone beyond the most die-hard Resident Evil fans picking this game up, and even they will likely leave feeling ripped off. Umbrella Corps feels like cheap, soulless fanservice in a tactical-action package.

  • Umbrella Corps is the most expensive free-to-play that you will find in the market. Not only is its gameplay terrible, but its online mode does not feature anybody to play with, so the game is almost dead by now. Capcom made us cry.

  • There is almost nothing good to say about Umbrella Corps. Seeing the classic Resident Evil maps was the only good aspect of this game. It's a pure mistake to release a game like this. Having a 'Resident Evil' title is not enough for a game to be good I'm afraid.

  • In the end, all we could come up with was that Umbrella Corps was meant to reach out to everyone and ended up being something that will please no one.

  • LEVEL (Czech Republic)

Pointless and bad multiplayer game to put it plain – it is difficult to find any positives. Play rather the old Unreal Tournament, you will enjoy it much more. [Issue#266]

  • Umbrella Corps has a few interesting ideas up its sleeve, but that’s all it has. Whenever it attempts to put those ideas into practice, they’re shoddily executed and laughably inept for a tactical shooter that rewards almost no tactics whatsoever.
