Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach

Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach brings you to a dark era of carnage and endless war. There is no peace among the stars: the Imperium of Man is beset on all sides by all kinds of threats. Among them is the Orks, a barbaric and warlike xeno race. One of their fiercest leaders, Grukk Face-Rippa, leads his Red Waaagh! in the Sanctus Reach system. Worlds after worlds fall to billions of Orks, until only one last planet resists the green tide: the Knight World of Alaric Prime. This is where a brave company of Space Wolves makes its stand to defend the last bastion of mankind in the system…

  • Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach is a good strategy game that lacks in narrative terms.

  • Sanctus Reach is a classic turn-based strategy game, full of good ideas and with a high number of campaigns that guarantee many hours of entertainment. The three levels of difficulty ensure that it is suitable for both experts in the genre and for beginners.

  • Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach provides deep gameplay with a simple recipe: easy-to-learn combat rules and units… lots and lots of unique units. Despite minor bugs and a lack of flair – no cutscenes, little narrative, not much in the way of physics – Sanctus Reach is a solid entry in the Warhammer franchise, and an excellent turn-based tactical game to boot.

  • Sanctus Reach is a well-executed Warhammer 40,000 game that should easily please turn based strategy fans and provides plenty of content for the price.

  • CD-Action

Sanctus Reach does not offer scale or presentation comparable to Total War series, but it has the charm of an old school turn-based strategy game and seems to be a great basis for future Warhammer 40,000 titles. [03/2017, p.46]

  • Ain't pretty but plays well.

  • It's hard to deny Sanctus Reach a certain aura, peculiar to clashes of miniature figurines on meticulously assembled tabletop battlefields. So, if you feel like devoting your life to the Emperor and have no buddies who'd fancy a tabletop session, or you're just not interested in collecting figurines, you should definitely give Sanctus Reach a try. Just remember--it's for hardcore strategy fans only.

  • Sanctus Reach is a cool and fun turn-based 3D wargame that fans of Warhammer 40K will no doubt lap up. I had a lot of fun with it and I'm certainly going to be stepping back into our dark human future for more.

  • Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach is a good turn based strategy game with the essence of the original table board game.

  • Warhammer 40,000: Sanctus Reach could be a good turn based strategy game, some mechanics are well implemented but numbers and statistics seem to be quite random.

  • Game World Navigator Magazine

Sanctus Reach took a lot from tabletop rules, but not everything: for example, action points, square-based grid, abilities with long recharge time – all that has little to do with original Warhammer 40k. Although the game does get some things right: victory depends on control of key points, number of turns is limited, and RNG is just as capricious as dice: misses with point-blank shots and instant kills with lucky crits are par for the course here. [Issue#217, p.82]

  • These flashes of satisfaction aren't enough to hold up a game that’s mediocre at best and vexing at worst. Together with a host of minor annoyances, they add up to a long, dull stint with a bad game from a great franchise that deserves far better treatment.
