Sardonically funny, addictive, with unique style and a versatile soundtrack, Serial Cleaner is one of the sleeper hits of the summer.
Serial Cleaner is a funny, artsy and light game that wants us to clean murder scenes while being, but not too much.
While groovy from its soundtrack to its illustrated style, Serial Cleaner’s ‘70s ‘stache and sharply defined stealth-action is often tiring. I’d rather have somebody else clean this up.
With its charming papercraft-like visuals and enjoyable 70s themed soundtrack, Serial Cleaner can be a lot of fun if you have the patience for it.
Serial Cleaner is a brief yet surprisingly addictive blood-soaked stealth game, provided that you can survive long enough to get past its steep difficulty spike.
Serial Cleaner has enough tricks up its sleeve to keep you engaged for about two thirds of the way – which is about two and a half hours in gameplay time. Afterwards, it becomes simply tedious: difficulty keeps rising while problems and solutions stay the same. [Issue#222, p.74]
There’s a lack of variety in the way you play Serial Cleaner which makes things disappointing. You move around, hide in cupboards, clean up the blood, and carry the bodies back to your car. The only real option you have beyond that is setting up a noise distraction which will cause nearby guards to come running. Cleaning is a dangerous, yet apparently mundane job, but someone has to do it.
A slick and stylish stealth-action game that could do with some greater depth. [Issue#265, p.60]
A polished, well-presented skin wrapped around thoroughly unremarkable stealth fundamentals. Serial Cleaner is not an actively antagonistic experience, just draining and unrewarding.
The game draws its inspirations from Hotline Miami but fails miserably. [10/2017, p.75]
